A non-profit, non-political WhatsApp group, GUDUP has once again exhibited its humanitarian service by repairing the unattended Saikul-Sapormeina bridge, in connection with the coming premier festival of the Kuki community, Chavang Kut, at Saikul Hill Town .
Saikul-Sapormeina bridge connects Saikul Sub Division including Konghom area with the Kangpokpi District Headquarters and the rest of the world and the approximately 15 km long road connects National Highway 2 and Saikul- Imphal road thereby becoming the busiest and main connectivity of the area .
The base of the bailey bridge has shown several cracks in the aftermath of Cyclone Mora and the flash flood which subsequently led to sealing of the bridge by the district administration and authority concerned .
The grievances and hardships of the people soared when heavy vehicles, passenger services and four wheelers were restricted to cross the bridge .
Although repeated appeal have been made by different CSOs of Kangpokpi, the bridge remained unattended .
Considering the festive mood of the people, GUDUP took the initiative of repairing the base of Saikul-Sapormeina bridge for four wheelers accessibility to ease the problem of transportation for Kut goers .
The Chavang Kut festival, will be organized at Saikul Hill Town on November 1 .
Recently, the United Welfare Committee and various other CSOs of Kangpokpi gave ultimatum to the State Government in connection with the deplorable Koubru Laikha Tengdonjang pavement on NH-2 and Saikul- Sapormeina bridge .
Thousands of people across the district are expected to partake in the premier festival at Saikul .

The WhatsApp group comprising of 23 members include social workers, bureaucrats, journalist, etc and called themselves as 'Guldus' while a Kaptan supervises the group .
“It is also not against anybody and also not an insult to the department concerned and Government as well since we purely and with clear intention repair it only for Kut goers”, GUDUP Kaptan said .
However, the GUDUP Kaptan cautioned that the repairing is temporary and to be used for Chavang Kut goers only.
The bridge will be restricted after the festival, as per the instruction of the district administration and authority concerned, he added .
He is hopeful that light four wheelers can now pass over the bridge but cautioned that it will not hold heavy or passenger vehicles .
He also appealed everyone to understand the situation of the bridge and avoid any risky attempt to demolish the humanitarian and good motive of GUDUP while adding that it will not bear any responsibility if any case related to the bridge arise .
GUDUP also extended their advanced greeting to the people of the district on the occassion of Kut .
It expressed gratitude to Bhartia Infra Project Limited for permitting its tippers for use in transportation of chips and sand while conveying heartfelt gratitude to the JCB owner, a denizen of Kangpokpi, for his contribution towards the humble initiative of GUDUP .
