Pregnant woman beaten to death by husband

In a shocking incident, an eight-month pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband after the couple had a fight over an alleged illicit affair which the husband was having with another woman about which the victim came to know.
The incident happened yesterday evening at about 8 pm at Thoubal Ningombam in Thoubal district.
According to members of the victim's maternal home, the victim N Dhanamanjuri aged 24, who was in the last stage of pregnancy, was severely beaten up by her husband in a fit of rage following a heated argument over the illicit affair that her husband, Niranjan aged 28, was having with another woman, who was also reportedly pregnant for two months.
According to a sister, the victim called her on her mobile phone the other day and told her that she feels very depressed living there but she have to carry on for the sake of her aging mother and her daughter and the pregnant baby.
Dhanamanjuri was shifted to the Thoubal hospital by her husband's family members but she was declared brought death by the doctors there.

The family members of Niranjan fled the hospital after they came to know that their daughter-in-law was dead, a police source said.
The accused, a police constable in Manipur police and his family members told reporters that his wife was found hanging herself when he returned home from duty in the evening yesterday.
He and the victim did not have any sort of arguments or quarrel in the past months.
The two also went to a clinic only the other day to check their four years old daughter's health.
Following the incident, tensions prevailed at Thoubal Ningombam as residents of the victim's locality and the Niranjan's locality stormed the house of Niranjan and attempted to pull it down around 11:30 this morning but police came rushing to the spot and prevented them from dismantling the house.
Another attempt to damage the house led to a minor scuffle between a large crowd and the police around 12:30 this afternoon.
The police resorted to firing tear gas shells and live bullets to quell the mob.
No one was injured in the police action.
Some women, however, somehow managed to enter into the residence and destroyed some portions of it before the police stopped them, sources said.
A case has been registered with the Thoubal police in connection with the incident, police said.
A JAC against the killing was formed in a public meeting at Thoubal Ningombam and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur demanding appropriate action against the accused Niranjan.
The JAC also demanded taking Niranjan and his mother into police custody before conducting the post mortem.
Meanwhile, the alleged accused Niranjan has turned himself in at the Lilong Police Station today.
