Imphal, May 26 2016:
Highlighting all the woes being encountered by a large number of people after Imphal River bank breached at Kyamgei Muslim Oinam Loukon and the possible outbreak of water borne diseases, the Urup Khunou Youth Club (UKYC) has appealed to the Government to drain out water collected in their locality using water pump-sets so as to reduce chances of water-borne diseases.
Speaking to media persons at Urup Khunou today, UKYC president Md Firoz Khan informed that some medicines have been provided to the flood victims by the Imphal East CMO apart from different relief materials provided by the Imphal East district administration, NGOs and private individuals.
To avoid water-borne diseases, water collected at the flooded areas should be drained as fast as possible and people of the area should be provided alum and chlorine.
Saying that Urup Khunou and Kyamgei Muslim are the two areas worst affected by the recent flood, Md Firoz appealed to the Government to drain out the flood waters and restore the breached river bank ahead of the holy month of Ramzan.
He also sought compensation for the houses damaged by the flood.
Keirao Makting Zilla Parishad member Md Abdul Salam while pointing out that Keirao AC is drained by Imphal River, Iril River and Kongba River, underscored the urgent need to repair all the river banks which are vulnerable to floods.
