Imphal, May 24 2017:
Regional
Institute of Medical Sciences
(RIMS) under Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare is
reportedly undergoing
financial crisis.
According to an official
source, the institute is facing
difficulties in paying the hospital's
impress money and the
salaries of its employees and
staff.
It pointed out that the Ministry
had sanctioned around
Rs 40 crore as Grant-in-Aid
for April to June for this financial
year but most of the
first instalment have been
used to pay off the contract
workers adding that the contract
workers are usually paid
per work basis.
As the first instalment
sanctioned by the Ministry
fell short, the RIMS Director
and the Medical Superintendent are urging the Ministry to sanction the
second instalment namely for July, August and September.
The official stated that the Medical Superintendent had to
pay the pending salaries of the employees and the staffs from
the institute's corpus funds as there was no money to pay the
pending salaries.
The official further said that only Rs six to
seven crore are left in RIMS account and the authorities are
finding it difficult to run a huge institute like RIMS with such
limited finances adding that there was no more money to pay
for the employees' GPF, reimbursements, contract workers'
bill etc.
If anything more than the basic salaries of the employees
are paid off, the institute's account will sway towards
negative, the official added.
