A Passport office is coming up in the State soon.
Until the setting up of the passport office, arrangement would be made for organising passport camp in the State from time to time, said Chief Passport Officer of India, Muktesh K Pardeshi.
The Chief Passport Officer was speaking at the sideline of the first two-day passport camp which began at 1st MR Banquet Hall here today.
The camp is being organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India.
The number of people of the State who want passport will also be determined during the ongoing camp, Muktesh told reporters.
Saying that the Ministry of External Affairs has already given its approval for the setting up of a passport office in the State, Muktesh said that necessary works for setting up of the office would soon be initiated in consultation with the State Govt.He also added that details for obtaining passport can be had from the Passport India website.
Principal Secretary (Home), Suresh Babu said that the State Govt has already identified the site for Passport Office construction.
The inconveniences faced by the people of the State in obtaining passport would be eased once the office comes up here.
He also said that the Chief Passport Officer would be persuaded to extend the ongoing passport camp if the need arises.
Suresh Babu further observed that the day was historic for the citizens of the State as passport facility is extended to them in the State.
The Deputy Chief of Regional Passport Office, Guwahati and several other staff of the office attended the camp.
A total of 240 people have submitted passport forms on the first day of the camp while many who missed the opportunity were left disappointed.
