Imphal, July 22 2021:
AICC leader Bhakta Charan Das has accused the BJP government of indulging in political horse trading amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Thursday, BC Das informed that the process for electing a new president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) will be taken up within seven days and he had met with members of CLP, frontal and cells.
Regarding the reports of possibilities of some Congress MLAs joining BJP, the Congress leader said that the time is to work towards saving lives and curbing the transmission of Covid-19 .
Unfortunately, the BJP government is indulging in political horse trading and has been trying to lure MLAs from the opposition.
BJP has been indulging in such politics for years, he said while adding that the BJP government in the state is an unconstitutional entity.
The Supreme Court will soon declare its verdict on the fate of 12 MLAs, who held the post of parliamentary secretary under the present government, he added.
Covid situation in the state is very bad.
On the other hand, the central government is saying in the parliament that no Covid patient had died due to lack of oxygen.
However, death cases are high in the state and many patients are not getting ICU beds and ventilator support easily.
The government should take up strict measures to look into the problems being faced in the hospitals and install more ventilators in the district hospitals.
At the same time, testing capacity is low and vaccination progress is slow in the state, he added.
BC Das further said that the state government has not been able to control the pandemic even after a series of curfews and restrictions and positivity rate is still high.
The BJP government shall be held responsible for the high fatality rate as it is disheartening to see 15 to 19 deaths per day in the state, which has only about 30 lakh population.
The government has not provided any forms of compensation to any Covid victims.
There is limited use of RTPCR testing despite the critical situation in the state, he said and added that the Covid crisis will further deepen under the BJP government.
There is no proper policy in the state and just observing the situation cannot resolve the crisis.
On the other hand, Congress leaders in the state are dedicating their service for the public and their safety.
They are providing ambulances and relief materials to the public, he said.
Regarding the issue of illegal snooping using Pegasus spyware of the Israel-based NSO Group, BC Das enquired why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not saying a single word in this regard.
Congress is demanding a white paper and a high level independent investigation in Pegasus snooping scandal.
This is a serious breach of privacy of the people of the country.
The country is in a state of undeclared emergency.
Without safety of privacy, the digital India campaign cannot be a safe policy and India can never be a safe country in the absence of digital privacy, he added.
