Personally inspecting implementation of mid-day meal scheme at several schools in Imphal West district, Education Minister M Okendro today warned of taking action against any schools that do not implement the scheme effectively.
Inspecting Praja High School, Lamshang under Imphal West Zone-I the Minister joined the children in having the mid-day meal there.
There are 307 students in the school which has Classes VI-X .
The Minister was visibly annoyed on seeing the unhygienic way of serving mid-day meal at the school.
He issued strict instruction to the school authority to maintain hygiene in serving the meal to the children.
M Okendro also inspected Kebol High School at Tera Bazar; Budhimanjuri Junior HS; Sagolband Girls' Primary School; and Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School.
Speaking to reporters, Education Minister, M Okendro said he along with the department officials would conduct inspection at all schools to ascertain the smooth implementation of mid-day meal scheme in the State.
Pointing out that he came across some schools where there are no glasses for drinking water, the Minister assured that the Government would provide them very soon.
He also said that all out efforts would be exerted to ensure delivery of mid-day meal rice and other items to all schools.
He said the delivery and shipping system would be reviewed.
1,80,000 children of primary school children and 40,000 children of upper primary children of the State are covered under mid-day meal scheme with 6335 cooks.
The Minister further said a training programme in collaboration with the National Rural Health Mission would be held for cooks so that they serve the meal in a more hygienic way.
