Regional office of FCI godown opens at Imphal

Imphal, January 22 2014 :
A regional office of FCI godown was inaugurated by Prof KV Thomas, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution at the Old Manipur Legislative Assembly building here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Thomas assured that FCI godowns will be opened in every district of Manipur if the state Government allots the required land.
He said the newly opened FCI godown will provide immense help to the State Government in implementing the Food Security Act.
Prof Thomas pointed out that Imphal West and Senapati districts have their own FCI godowns and the godowns for Churachandpur and Thoubal are now under construction.

He also assured FCI godowns for Imphal East and Bishupur districts will be opened next and the remaining districts afterward.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who was also present on the occasion, assured that the state Government will allot appropriate land for setting up more FCI godowns in every district of the state.
He also reiterated that the National Food Security Act will be introduced in the state during the current year.
The Chief Minister also drew the attention of the Union Minister for increasing the rice quota allotted to Manipur in tune with the increasing population.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister M Okendro, Chief Secretary, FCI, Imphal Managing Director C Bishwanath were also present during the function.
