Acting on the report of large scale sale of meat of wild animal in the market of Ukhrul, Forest Department of Ukrhul swung into action today and seized a number of wild animal meat from Phungreitang market in Ukhrul, reports our correspondent.
According to Ukhrul Forest Department officer Honyo Kaping who led the team they seized the meat of thew wild animals from three women vendors near the DC office and Gandhi Chowk at Phungreitang, Ukhrul during the drive.
He added that they however could not arrest the owners of the meat as they had all disappeared.
Following the seizure of the meat of wild animals, the Forest Department of Ukhrul said that sale of the meat of wild animal is illegal and anyone found trading in wild animal meat is liable for imprisonment.
The seized meat included venison, dried meat of wild animals and wild birds costing approximately Rs 10,000.Later, at around 3 pm the seized items were set aflame in front of the Divisional Forest Office, Phungreitang Ukhrul.
