The 36 hours general strike called against the Government's decision to shift Imphal East District Hospital from Sagolmang since 5 am yesterday saw confrontation between strike supporters and police at different places today who attempted to open the roads.
Roads were blocked using boulders, timbers, bamboos and steel poles at Keibi, Taretkhul, Heikak Mapal and Sagolmang.
One man sustained injuries when police fired tear gas shells in their attempt to drive away the strike supporters at Keibi.
The victim identified as Moirangthem Naothi (35) of Keibi was hit by tear gas shell on the thigh.
As was the case yesterday, Khurai Lamlong Keithel remained deserted today too.
Strike supporters blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road at Khurai and police pulled up two women.
However, the strike had little impact at Khwairamband Keithel and surrounding commercial centres.
The strike was called by the JAC Against the Unnatural Shifting of District Hospital, Imphal East from Sagolmang and it ended at 5 pm today with little untoward incident.
JAC convenor L Thoiba decried that the Government paid little attention to the people's grievances and their agitation.
Maintaining that the JAC would continue with different modes of agitation, the convenor demanded immediate release of the two women arrested by police from Khurai.
