Meeting for earthquake affected victims held at Jiri

Jiribam, March 20 2019:
A special meeting for earthquake affected victims was held at Chhotobekra, Jiribam today and later constituted a committee called Earthquake Affected Beneficiaries Committee Jiribam.
The committee was formed to fight against the failure of the authorities concerned to provide the long overdue compensation for the victims of the natural disaster.
The committee was instituted after the occurrence of a series of the following incidents: in the year 2014 it was declared in public that victims of natural disaster under the scheme of "Indra Gandhi Awaj Yojana" would be compensated by the Government.
Subsequently, a list of deserving individuals were collected within the erstwhile Jiribam sub-division by the authority concerned.
However, the victims, when failed to receive the benefits of the said scheme even after three years from the day of announcement of the scheme, confronted the authority concern about the failure.
The authority concerned then advised every individual applicants to open a bank account at Bandhan Bank, Jiribam branch for the transaction of the relief fund and this was promptly carried out by the beneficiaries.
Earlier this year, when the victims of the natural disaster enquired about the passbook of their respective bank account, they were told that their respective passbook have already been collected by some individuals.
The said committee is headed by Sajol Sharma of Harinagar as Chairman and Neithang Hrangchal of Tuisuolien as secretary.
The committee resolved to refrain from casting their vote in the ensuing election if their plight is not addressed before the election.
