Imphal, January 18 2020:
The 5th Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival 2020, organised by Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, kicked off at JNMDA auditorium today.
Chorus Repertory Theatre Chairman Ratan Thiyam graced the function as the chief guest while retired IAS Dr RK Nimai attended as functional president and eminent critic Professor Nongmaithem Tombi as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Ratan Thiyam expressed that celebrating such festival or occasion is appropriate and important while lamenting that the Manipur society lacks appreciation and acknowledgement of people who are good and popular personalities in the field of art and culture.
He continued that despite numerous claims about art and culture being the face of Manipur or representing the people of the State, there is less appreciation of those who are contributing in the field of culture or the field itself.
Maintaining that the plays written by Khundongbam Brojendro have a unique taste, Ratan stated that his stories were different and unique from other as they are naturalistic/realistic.
A play titled Kari-nungi Nupi Lonjaruba of Kanglei Living Artiste Uchiwa was performed.
The festival will be organised for seven days.
