Imphal, October 17 2015 :
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Manipur has rejected the proposal for tripartite talks suggested by those who have opposed the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly for the protection of indigenous people of the State.
Sources said there was a suggestion made from certain quarters that representatives of the central government should be part of the proposed talks to be held for bringing an end to the current stalemate.
The agitation in the hill districts particularly Churachandpur District is still on.
The CLP's decision came after a meeting in which some legislators had opined that accepting the proposal will further complicate the current problem and there was the likelihood of the agitating groups making further demands for a separate administration for the hills.
The legislators felt that any issues within the State should be settled with the State Government without involving any third party.
It may be mentioned that an eight-member team of Coordinating Committee (CC) of All Tribal students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and Joint Action Committee (JAC), Churachandpur left Imphal on October 7 for Delhi to apprise central leaders of the ongoing stir against the Bills in the hill districts.
They were supposed to meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh and other central and tribal leaders.
ATSUM had also announced that it would decide the future course of actions after its members returned from Delhi.
ATSUM had served ultimatum on tribal MLAs to resign from the membership of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on two occasions (September 30 and October 3).Four MLAs from Naga Peoples Front (NPF) had reportedly tendered their resignations.
ATSUM had stated that its members will not hold talk unless Manipur Government withdraws the three bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last.
