Manipuri boy selected for Bravery Award 2010

A boy from Manipur is among 23 boys and girls who will receive the National Bravery Awards for 2010 from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at a function in New Delhi on the eve of Republic Day this year.
Thirteen year old Md Nurul Huda of Phoubakchao presently residing at Hatta Minuthong, Imphal is currently in New Delhi to take part in the rehearsal for participation in the parade of the awardees.
He lost his father and lives cared by his widowed mother.
He has been selected for the award recognizing for saving a tribal boy of KR Lane from drowning in the Imphal river in 2010. Eight children from the NE states are among the 23 boys and girls selected for the awards.
Two awards will be given posthumously.
The prestigious Geeta Chopra Award has been conferred on 13 year old Km Jismi PM of Kerala who saved two children from drowning.
The Sanjay Chopra Award has been given to 11 year old Master Priyanshu Joshi of Uttarakhand who saved his sister from a leopard.
The National Bravery Award Scheme is an endeavour by the Indian Council for Child Welfare to give due recognition to the children who show exceptional courage and perform meritorious service to inspire others to emulate their example.
Children will get a medal, certificate and cash under the scheme and the awardees will be granted financial assistance until they complete their schooling.
The Government has reserved some seats for the awardees in medical and engineering colleges and polytechnics.
