Imphal, May 16 2023:
In the wake of the communal clash that broke out on May 3, the All India Radio (AIR) Churachandpur relay transmission has been reportedly forced to halt service on the ground that no activity related with the state of Manipur should be performed in 'Kukiland'.
According to a reliable source, a group of people including some staff of the trans-mission unit came at AIR Churachandpur station on May 10 and informed officials to stop the relay transmission with im-mediate effect as part of the demand for separate Kukiland.
After the matter was apprised to top officials of AIR, AIR Imphal director called for allowing transmission of programmes related with Prasar Bharati.
However, the group of people insisted that Churachandpur has become a part of the separate Kukiland and no transmission/ machineries related with Manipur state should be conducted and accordingly stopped the transmission completely.
On the other hand, around 20 staff including top officials belonging to Kuki community posted at AIR Imphal submitted applications for transferring them to other stations out-side Manipur citing insecurity to work at the station.
Among them, 2/3 staff sought transfer to AIR Shillong and the rest at AIR Aizawl.
AIR Imphal had earlier broadcast live news on seven dialects but recorded news on Paite, Thadou and Hmar dialects are now being aired after the same are sent through mobile phone .
