'Saksham 2021' programme held

Awareness programme on petroleum products conservation and effective utilisation 'Saksham 2021' was held today at the conference hall of CAF and PD, Sangaiprou.
The awareness programme which is a part of 'Saksham 21' which will continue till February 15 was organised by public sector oil and gas companies under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Petroleum Conservation and Research Association (PCRA).
Chief Minister N Biren Singh said as the petroleum products are non-renewable resources, there is a need for proper sensitisation of energy conservation and promotion of energy efficient practices among the masses, in a message released in regard to the awareness programme and also urged the people to participate in the month long programme.
Speaking at the programme, K Robindro, Deputy Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, said the locals need to be made aware on various means and ways to minimise the used of petroleum products with discussion programmes on various radio stations.
He added that the high cost and quality issues that comes with e-vehicles in India limits its usage in large number.
This has resulted in widespread used of vehicles that runs on petroleum products.
Bobby Waikhom, Commissioner, CAF and PD, said there are speculations that we may run out of Petroleum products by 2050.If this was to happen, the future generation will not be able to enjoin the facilities enjoyed by us at present, so we will all need to exercise caution in utilisation of petroleum products to preserve for the future, he added.
He also suggested practical application of various fuel conserving means that we all can inculcate in our day today life, like cutting off engines at traffic stops, utilisation of solar energy based accessories etc.
Rajkumar Mohen Singh, State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry Manipur, said the domestic oil produced in the Country accounts for less than 30% of daily requirements, the remaining are imported from other countries, which drains the economy everyday.
He urged the people to utilise petroleum products in a careful manner so as to minimise its utilisation.
Saksham 2021 pledge was also taken at the programme.
