MLA extends flood relief aid to different areas of Wangkhei AC

Imphal, June 15 2018:
With a view to provide relief to the flood victims of Wangkhei, local MLA Okram Henry distributed rice and other relief materials today.
Meanwhile, Imphal East district medical team also conducted a health camp for the affected people.
For victims under ward no 22, MLA O Henry presented 250 bags of rice and 20 kgs of dal to secretary and members of Citizens Club, Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou.
He also distributed 25 bags of rice and 2 kgs of dal to SAYC Modern College, Soibam Leikai while 35 bags of rice and 3 kgs of rice were presented for victims of New Chekkon Leikai and 30 bags of rice along with 3 kgs of dal were given for victims of New Lambulane.
On the other hand, for flood affected people of ward no 2, the MLA presented 130 bags of rice and 15 kgs of dal to WAL club, Angom Leikai, Ningthem Pukhri while, 200 bags of rice and 20 kgs of dal were presented to ESC club, Nongmeibung.
For flood affected victims of other areas, the MLA contributed 10 bags and one kg dal to Maringlane Leikai, 20 bags of rice and 2 kgs of dal to Nongpok Ingkhol Mathak, 20 kgs of rice and 2 kgs of dal to Nongpok Ingkhol Makha, 10 bags of rice and one kg of dal to Chassad Avenue and 5 bags of rice and one kg of dal to Palace Gate.
On the other hand, 10 bags of rice and one kg of dal given to Mission lane, 10 bags of rice and one kg of dal to Dimdailung and 10 bags of rice and one kg of dal to Nongthonpung.
Okram Henry also presented 20 bags of rice and 2 kgs of dal to Tribal Colony.
Later, the MLA visited the relief camp to fulfil the needs of the victims.
A medical camp was also conducted in which two doctors, one nurse and one staff from Imphal East Chief Medical Officer attended to the victims.
15 Wangkhei AC, MLA Okram Henry, while speaking to media persons on the sideline of the relief aid distribution, expressed sorrow over the present flood situation while stating that overflowing of Imphal river has affected numerous people of Wangkhei AC, especially in ward no 21 and 22.The MLA further stated that the State Govt was cautioned repeatedly to take up precautionary measures and steps before the flood while adding that warning about an incoming flood through media will not suffice.
Henry claimed that as soon as the sky darkened and rain started approaching, the reinforcement work along the river banks started, under his guidance, using excavators and dippers.
He said that earlier, the river bank at Golapati side overflowed leading to destruction of many houses and properties.
The State Govt took up reinforcement work at the said area but due to the unfinished construction of retaining wall, artificial flood occurred.
The flooding of the northern side of Sanjenthong was a result of the failure of Chief Minister and Water Resource Department Minister in taking up precautionary measures, the MLA claimed.
