Imphal, October 14 2011:
In order to prevent any unwanted incidents and maintain peaceful academic atmosphere inside the campus of Manipur University, stringent security measures will be taken in and around Manipur University, assured Professor H Nandakumar, Vice Chancellor today.
It was unfortunate for a responsible police officer to enter the university campus and disturb the peaceful academic atmosphere of the university.
Moreover there are reports of some police personnel entering the university campus on holidays to tease and flirt with the girl students.
Alleging that the present security in charge of the University seems to lack sincerity in his duty, Professor Nandakumar said that he will appeal to concerned authority to replace him with another sincere police officer and stop the entry to security personnel inside the University campus without permission of higher authority.
The present security arrangement was made by the Home Ministry after the murder of Professor Islamuddin, he added.
Talking about the demands for the revival of students' union of the University, he said that he will discuss the matter with the Legal advisor of University Grant Commission (UGC) since it requires permission from the President of India.
