Ukhrul, August 14 2019: A peace rally marked the second edition of the Tangkhul Naga Youth Locomotion for Peace at Kachai village, Ukhrul in connection with the 73rd Naga Independence Day under the slogan "Expedite Framework Agreement" for an early Indo-Naga political solution.

The rally started from Kachai village ground with the participants waving Naga National flags while a bike rally was also flagged off by the Headman in charge of Kachai village Mingthing R Shimray from the same ground.

The bike rally and the marchers later converged at Talui village.

Before the rally began a public meeting was held with the convener of Naga Youth Locomotion for Peace (NYLP) Kahangpam Vashum detailing the Naga National movement and the struggle for self determination, free from Indian domination.

He said the rally was basically organized to extend support to the Framework Agreement of 2015 signed between GoI and NSCN-IM and spread the message of the legitimate rights of the Nagas which need to be heard by the Indian leaders as well as the international community.

Ukhrul ADC members Thuingahan and Thangchipem deliberated on the need of more involvement from the youth in the movement for political freedom.

Judson Rungsung former Principal of Patkai College highlighted the background of the ceasefire agreement signed between NSCN-IM with GoI in 1997.It was agreed that the talk would be held without pre-conditions and in a third country at the Prime Minister level and after several rounds of negotiation, the dialogue led to the signing of the Framework Agreement in 2015.But so far, after more than four years of signing the FA, the negotiation is still and this has raised doubts on the sincerity of GoI, he added.

More than one thousand of Naga National flags were distributed for the peace rally, said volunteers of Kachai village.

In a separate programme the Tangkhul Naga Headman Association president AS Vaomi today hoisted the Naga National flag at TKS office, Ukhrul in the presence of student leaders and well wishers.

The 73rd Naga Independence day was celebrated at TKS office, which is located just opposite to the Mini Secretariat office complex main gate at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
