Imphal, October 13 2011:
In defiance of an earlier decision taken by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) not to accept money by reporters for covering news and omit such paid news from publication, reporters who have gone to cover the inspection visit of Agriculture Department officials in two places of Imphal East district were reportedly offered Rs 200 each.
An official team of Agriculture Department today conducted field visit to inspect cultivation of DRS-748 and DRS-775 under up under SRI method in two different parts of Imphal East district.
In connection with offering money to reporters by officials of Agriculture Department, a veteran journalist told Huieiyen Lanpao that it is very unfortunate on the part of the Government officials to live under the impression that reporters could be steered to any direction they like by offering money or gifts.
Such officials should be dragged to the court, if possible.
Reporters should also discourage such officials and keep in mind journalistic ethics at all times.
Only then, there can be real development in Manipur, the veteran journalist added.
