Workshop on Manipuri terminology preparation inaugurated

A ten-day workshop on preparation of Manipuri terminology for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Geography, Anthropology and Commerce began today at the Multipurpose Hall of SCERT, Lamphelpat.
The workshop is being organised by the Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation, Govt of Manipur.
Altogether, 32 experts in diverse subjects will help prepare Manipuri terminologies equivalent to English technical terms of the subjects.
The primary objective of the workshop is to prepare standard and uniform Manipuri terminology for early production of textbooks and reference books for all the subjects taught up to the graduation level in Manipuri medium, according to Dr L Mahabir Singh, Joint Director, LPI, Manipur.
He said that Manipuri translation of the nine subjects will begin from next month.
He added that plans are afoot to introduce the subjects, after rendering them into Meetei Mayek script, from the academic session 2016-17.Two such workshops were conducted earlier.
