Stand up for voiceless : Shishak

Urging the human rights activists of Ukhrul to stand up and raise their voice for the voiceless people, Rtd Justice WA Shishak expounded on the underlying meaning of the theme "Stand Up for Someone's Rights' on the 68th International Human Rights Day held at UBC Church, Phungreitang yesterday.
Addressing the gathering in connection with the day yesterday, Justice Shishak recalled how the rights of millions of Jews were violated during WW II under Nazism.
He added that it is this refusal to respect the rights of others which has torn apart the people.
Sitara Begum, president of All Manipur Muslim Women's Development said that peaceful co-existence is the need of the time and added she has been working for peace for more than 25 years now.
The forefathers of the land lived on the principles of respecting the rights of others irrespective of caste and community affiliations, she said and added that this past practise is today under threat with opposing voices pulling the people apart.
All the differences can be resolved amicably if a common platform is created for all, she added.
Former Minister RV Mingthing hailed the Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) for organising the day's function and asked the members of NPMHR to uphold the rights of everyone.
Human rights activist Luingam Luithui, Dr Gina Shangkham convener of NPMHR (South), Timikha Kazo, Ningthouja Lancha, Pandi Golmei, Pastors and local leaders also addressed the gathering.
The programme was organised by NPMHR (South) in collaboration with Ukhrul-Hungpung town Churches, local social organizations, PASDO, UNMM, VVD/AAA and DSSS.
