Jiribam, May 11 2018:
Joint Action Committee for the Development of JT Road, Jiribam today condemned the State Government and authorities concerned for their inaction and 'ignorance' over the deplorable Jiri-Tipaimukh road for the past few years.
The road is in a deplorable state, said the committee in a statement issued by its convenor M Tombabu Singh today while adding that owing to the negligence of the Government and concerned authorities over the years, the road has deteriorated overtime to a point that it has become unsafe/unusable to pedestrians, said the committee.
The committee further noted that it had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and copies to the Works Minister, local MLA Asab Uddin and Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, As there was no response from the Government, the committee approached the local MLA and EE PWD Jiribam and held a joint meeting where the committee was told that there is no plan (for now) for reconstruction or renovation works of the JT road, the statement said.
This is sheer negligence on the part of the Government which has failed to understand the sentiments and values of the people of Jiribam who depends on the said road for livelihoods, said the committee.
Drawing the attention of the Government on the importance of the road and concerned over the pre-monsoon downpours, the people and the committee appealed the Government, Works Minister and authorities concerned to repair the road at the earliest.
The people have waited far too long for the Government to repair the road.
The people have no more patience left to endure me dilapidated road which continues to worsen overtime, said the statement of the committee and warned that the committee along with various organisations based in Jiribam and the people will launch stringent agitation if the Government fail to take any remedial action soon.
The Government should bear the sole responsibility for any untoward incidents, asserted the committee.
