Imphal, April 11 2015 :
Despite all the protests and efforts shown by Lei-Ingkhol residents to defend their homestead, the State Government was successful in acquiring Lei-Ingkhol from the residents.
The agreement that finally settled the conflict was the allocation of land to the evicted families at Lamlongei.
As per the promise made to the people, the State Government undertook construction of make-shift buildings to rehabilitate these victims.
Everything was going smooth till residents of Lamlongei refused to shelter these victims at the Government allocated area.
Speaking at a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, Lei-Ingkhol Eviction Affected Rehabilitaion and Development Committee advisor Ningthoujam Heitombi said the victims had demanded the allocation of land from the State in return for the one acquired.
Refuting the protests staged by Lamlongei residents against the shifting of Lei-Ingkhol victims in the area, Heitombi said the State allocated land does not fall under the private property of any local residents.
Taking a dig at the protestors claim of having disturbed the ecosytem in the shifting procedure, Heitombi said 'how many trees were there exactly before the makeshift houses for the victims were built? Will the ecosystem miraculously flourish if we had not been shifted to Lamlongei?' She further demanded State Government to complete the construction works of rehabilitation centre for the victim families at the earliest.
