Condemning the incident of November 29 last where a team of Forest staff on duty at Chanam Sandrok were allegedly intimidated by firing bullets, sit-in protests were staged in different Forest offices under Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri, today.
The protest demonstrations which began from 10 am were carried out at Sadhar East Range, Sadhar West Range, Nongmaijing Range and Sawombung Range.
Staffers of 18 Beat Offices which fall under the jurisdiction of the above-mentioned Ranges too staged protests in front of their complexes.
Members of the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) and Save Environment Committee also took part in the demonstrations.
Speaking to media persons, chairman of Save Environment Committee, Mutum Inaobi Singh said that threatening the staff of Thoubal Forest Division who were carrying out their duty to save the environment is very unfortunate.
Since the area where the incident took place falls under State Forest land, an unauthorised feeling of trees there is restricted, he added and demanded the State Government to arrest all who intimidated the Forest staff on November 29 last at the earliest.
Placards that read "We work for humanity", "Help us protect your forest & environment", "Teach the culprit a lesson", "Punish the culprit", "Stop threatening forest staff on duty" and "Lawbreakers should be punished" were used.
