Imphal, August 10 2018:
Expressing deep concern over the prevailing situation in the State in the last two months, the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has decided to set aside a day as a day of prayers and fasting.
The day of fasting and prayer will be observed on August 18 by the Seventh Day Adventist Church and all other Christian Churches will observe the day on August 19.In a statement, AMCO said Manipur is presently plagued by deep seated issues including Manipur University, Framework Agreement, ILPS, Indo Myanmar Border Pillar, etc., causing damage to every aspect of life for more than last two months.
If this situation continues for a longer period one can predict that there will not be progress but only self-destruction, said AMCO.
It is a fact that loss of academic career of the students will only lead to doom, said AMCO and added that similarly trust deficit and emotional disintegration amongst the people will only lead the "golden land and people to slavery." AMCO, the apex Christian Organisation in the State, appealed the Central Government and the State Government to work out amicable solutions atthe earliest through meaningful dialogue so that the people of Manipur can lead normal life under peaceful coexistence.
The Organisation also decried the use of bandhs, mob justice, long drawn out strikes and agitation to assert their respective aspirations and not through peaceful talks.
The Christian organisation also appealed to the various student organisations and CSOs in to refrain from calling bandhs and strikes but resort to other means to echo their grievances.
AMCO appealed to all the Christians and Churches in Manipur (both hill and valley) to focus their prayer points on the mentioned issues to ensure peace and harmony in the State through the blessings of the Almighty God.
The AMCO also requested all the Christians living in Manipur and elsewhere to extend full cooperation on the day of prayer and fasting.
