CCpur, January 10 2020:
Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian was felicitated today by well-wishers in his home Constituency for receiving the prestigious Krishi Karman Award for best-performing State in Overall Foodgrain Production Category-III (production less than 1 million tones) for the year 2017-18.The award carries a trophy, a citation and an amount of Rs 5 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Hangkhanlian said he never expected to receive such a coveted award and gave the credit to the Department officials and farmers who are the backbone in production of abundant foodgrains and pulses.
It was a proud moment for me, the people of my Constituency and the Agriculture Department that the State produced rice and pulses to the tune of 2570 kg/hectare and 960 kg/hectare against the National average of 2475 kg/hectare and 779 kg/hectare respectively, in the year 2017-18.He also thanked the people of his Constituency for putting their faith in him.
Hangkhanlian, while noting that he happens to be the concerned Minister when the State receives a favourable rainfall and a coordinated effort of the department concerned and farmers, said the State is not always fortunate and was hit by drought recently.
Despite being awarded for its record food grain production, the State is far from being self-sufficient in this regard, he added.
At the felicitation held at Simte Inn, Hangkhanlian was presented a neatly carved Mithun as a trophy by the ADC Churachandpur.
Members of several CSOs including KIC, PTC, HI, UZO, VPC, STC, Village Authorities, Senior Welfare Assn also attended the felicitation ceremony.
