Nation wide campaign on legal awareness launched in Ukhrul

District Session Court Judge Rajnikanta Singh today launched the 10 days Nation wide campaign on “Legal awareness” as a part of the observation of National legal day at Ukhrul police station .
The campaign was launched in the presence of SDPO Ukhrul, CJM, Lawyers and Para Legal volunteers (PLV) .
Chief Judiciary Magistrate (CJM), Ukhrul Alek Muivah urged the Para Legal volunteers (PLV) to dedicate their services diligently irrespective of their community, in order to ensure justice for all .
Alek Muivah, while speaking at the observation, stressed on the role and responsibilities of every PLVs in delivering timely free legal services to the deprived section of the society .
As an initial part of the campaign for public awareness on know your legal rights Para Legal Volunteers organised a walkathon from Mini secretariat to Ukhrul police station while holding the banner “Connecting to Serve”.The rally wounded up at District Session Court complex Phungreitang, Ukhrul .
A meeting was later held in which PLVs were highlighted on their duties for ensuring free legal services .
Alek Muivah briefed the PLVs to conduct door to door awareness campaign during the 10 days campaign in order to enlighten the public on legal matters at length .
He said the Supreme Court of India has reserved this day to sensitize the citizens about legal rights and is observed as the National Legal day .
Meanwhile, Alek Muivah also announced the establishment of two Legal Aid Clinics at Ukhrul police station and District Hospital, Hungpung Ukhrul which would be opened shortly .
He mentioned that four Legal Aid Clinic Centres have already been set up at Lunghar, Tora, Somdal and Kamjong villages recently .
The programme was organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.
