MSPDCL promises total electrification by 2019

The
Manipur State Power
Distribution Company Limited
(MSPDCL) is focusing on
providing electrification to all
the villages and power
accessible to all by 2018 said R.
Sudhan, MD of MSPDCL
during a press conference held
here today at DIPR organized
by DIPR.
He said that the company
has set a target of installing
3.5 lakh units of pre-paid
meters in the next two years.
At present, the company
has been collecting Rs 14
crore in a month as power
taxes on the average and it is
expected that the company
would be able to collect Rs
22 to 23 crores in the form of
power taxes once the
targettednumber of pre-paid
meters are installed.
There are about 110 villag-
ers that are yet to be
electrified.
He said providing
reliable, affordable 24x7
power by 2019 is another
objective.
The company is
working on improvement of
infrastructure from 11 KV
line down to the consumer
level by 2018 and 100%
metering to all 11 KV feed-
ers.
Commercial losses will
be reduced by 15% by 2019.
The power supply in
Manipur wholly depends on
the allocated share from Cen-
tral Generating Stations
(CGS) since the State owned
generation is very less, almost
nil.
At present, the total in-
stalled capacity of the Central
sector power generating sta-
tions at NE-Region is 2054
MW.
Out of which, the allo-
cated share of Manipur State
is around 190MW.
The per capita energy con-
sumption of Manipur as on
March 2016 is 290 KWH
which is much below the all
India average per capita con-
sumption of 1010 KWH.
Power supply has improved
in urban areas from 8 hrs per
day in 2011 to 22hrs.per day
in 2016. Similarly in rural
areas from 6 hrs per day in
2011 to 18-20hrs per day in
2016.
Billing and collection effi-
ciency drastically improved
due to installation of pre-pay-
ment energy meters.
MSPDCL is targeting to in-
stall pre- payment energy
meter for all consumers in
high consumption areas by the
end of December 2016.
So far, 2,56,535 numbers
of Pre- Payment Energy Me-
ters are installed and the
target is to install 3.5 lakhs.
Installation of 11 KV feeder
meters are in progress and
targeted to be complete by
September 2016.
Metering of distribution
transformer is also in
progress and targeted to be
completed by November
2016. As per MOU signed
amongst the Ministry of
Power, Govt.of Manipur and
MSPDCL in line with
UDAY (Ujwal Discom As-
surance Yojna) scheme on
July 26, 2016, MSPDCL
endeavors to reduce AT&C
loss to 25.15% during the FY
2016-17; 18.70% during FY
2017-18 and 15% during
2018-19.
The Government of India
has sanctioned Rs. 31.55
crores for Part-A and Rs.
398.87 crores for Part-B for
13-Municipality/small towns
in Manipur, viz: Bishnupur,
Imphal (W &E), Kakching,
Laxmi Thongkhong, Lilong
(Imphal West), Lilong
(Thoubal), Mayang Imphal,
Moirang, Moreh, Nambol,
Ningthoukhong, Samurou
and Thoubal.
Customer Care Centre
(CCC) has been opened at
Lamphel to address the griev-
ances of the consumers on all
days of a week including
Sunday and holidays from 8
am to 8 pm.
Consumers re-
siding in Imphal West and
Imphal East districts may dial
1912 for any complaints re-
lated with electricity.
The number will cover the
whole State in a short period.
