Language Directorate in 10 days, assures Education Minister Okendro

The present Language Cell under the Department of Education (S) would be upgraded into a full-fledged Language Directorate within five days at the earliest from today or 10 days at the latest, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has assured.
Minister M Okendro was speaking as Chief Guest of the 24th Foundation Day cum Annual Prize Distribution ceremony of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School at Khangabok today.
The Minister stated that Konkani and other languages which were included along with Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution have gone far ahead of Manipuri in terms of development.
The status of Manipuri language has remained as it was before because of the existence of the lone Language Cell under the Education (S) Department.
So, to accelerate the growth and development of Manipuri language, a full-fledged Language Directorate would be established very soon.
The Minister also informed that since Meetei Mayek is to be included in the Board Exam from 2015 onwards, the TET for Meetei Mayek has become quite significant.
Appealing to all concerned not to violate the provisions of Right to Education Act which guarantees free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years; Minister Okendro stated that the present education system in Manipur needs to be updated in tune with the changing status of the India education system.
And it should be seen that Manipur tops others in the new system of education in the country.
The Minister also reiterated that in addition to setting up of one Women's College in all the districts of the State, a Polytechnic would be established in Thoubal district at the earliest in consultation with the Chief Minister.
"This will help in imparting vocational education to the students of the district', he assured.
Furthermore, the Minister noted that KM Blooming Higher Secondary School may be right school which can be brought under the PPP model in accordance to the Indian Education system for Thoubal district.
So, the teachers of the school should not lose heart but try to be role model in bringing education tourism in the State.
Presided over by MLA of Khangabok A/C O Landhoni Devi, the function was also attended by MLA K Meghachandra, Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of DIPR; Kh Sunolata, Adhyaksha of Thoubal and Dr H Nabachandra, Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur as Guests of Honour.
