Imphal, June 08 2015 :
Liangmai Katimai Ruangdi, Delhi (LKRD) has strongly condemned the 'barbaric killing' of Chawangkebou Nkhapuinamai, a young and promising social worker, who was working as a P A of Vice-Chairman of Hill Areas Committee, Government of Manipur, on May 31 at Kuilong Segment.
In a statement, LKRD said, "It is, in all sense, a very inhuman and shameful act.
Anyone who values free and fair election is horrified by the incident.
Shock has been expressed by community in the areas.
His sudden demise has shocked us.
Such an act of murdering a youth is an attempt to intimidate and undermine the growth and progress of our society and those working to build a better community" .
It urged the concerned bodies or societies to speed up the case to deliver justice to the victim and his family according to the law of the land.
Right to speedy trial is the essence of criminal justice and there is no doubt that justice delayed is justice denied, it said.
Article 21 of Indian Constitution confers a fundamental right on every person not to be deprived of his/her life or liberty except in accordance with the procedure established by law, LKRD mentioned.
Moreover, the procedure established by law should be reasonable, fair and just, it said, adding that the procedure cannot be fair unless it ensures speedy trial for determination of the guilt of the accused and hence speedy trial is an integral and essential part of the fundamental right to life and liberty enshrined in article 21 .
"We urge the Government of Manipur to assist the victim's family to meet all the requirements in this case as well as those who depend on the victim for their livelihood.
Meanwhile, we also appeal to all leaders and community members to refrain from such inhumane or insane act in future.
