State to host International conference on adventure tourism

The Indian Tourism and Hospitality Congress (ITHC) in association with the Manipur Mountaineering Institute (MMI) will organize the 9th International Adventure Tourism Events/ Conference of Indian Tourism and Hospitality Congress (ITHC) 2015 at MMI Complex, Lamdan, Bishnupur from December 27-30 .
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, president of ITHC, North East Division, Dr M Binota stated that Indian Tourism Congress (ITHC) is a non-political, non-commercial organization of tourism with the aim of enhancing the standard of teaching and research of those engaged in the academic institutions, to promote its orderly growth and development to cater the need of tourism industry.
Lamdan is located 35 kms away from the State Capital.
The conference is being organised with the theme 'Adventure Tourism and Eco-tourism: Regional Perspective in India' .
She stated that the conference will include academic teachings on enhancing adventure based tourism followed by practical activities.
Dr Binota further said that the international conference will host foreign delegates and Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) will showcase Manipur's tourism potential and prospect.
She further said that Manipur is home to various historic sites of the World War II and there is huge potential to develop them as tourist hotspots.
ITHC has organized various international conferences in many countries.
This is the second time the conference is held in India, added Dr Binota.
The scope of the event includes adventure activities in land and water like trekking along the Thangjing range, para-gliding, rock-climbing, rafting and boating activities in different parts of the State, stated president of MMTA Dr Surjit.
He further said that December 27 is an important date for MMTA as it was on this very day in 1985 that Tenzing Norgay, a Nepalese-born Indian Sherpa mountaineer who scaled the summit of Mount Everest, laid the foundation stone of MMTA.
