State-level workshop held

Imphal, April 07 2016:
A one-day State-level workshop cum brain-
storming session on 'Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem in
North Eastern India under Changing Climate' under National
Mission on Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystems-Taskforce on
Himalayan Agriculture (NMSHE TF-6) was held today at ICAR
Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
Around 60 delegates and farmers attended the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest, Dr CA
Srinivasamurthy, Director of Research, CAU, Imphal stated
that some alternative to jhum cultivation should be devised
along with retaining forest ecosystem.
Guest of honour, Prof JM Laishram, Dean, COA, CAU
stated that Himalayan region is facing a multifaceted problems
due to climate change like soil erosion, flood, insect pest
incidence etc and this has affected the crop and livestock
productivity.
During the brainstorming session, Dr Ng Ibotombi Singh
from State Veterinary Dept, Government of Manipur sug-
gested that soil profile map should be developed for Manipur
and agro-climatic zones should be revalidated and documented.
