Age relaxation robs promotion avenue

Imphal, August 06 2017:
On account of extension/relaxation of the age of superannuation of some employees holding top posts in the Health Department, many subordinate officers have been stuck to their posts/positions in the absence of any room for promotion .
Generally specialist doctors are allowed to work past their age of superannuation but it remains a big question as to how effective would be this system to make up shortage of doctors in the State .
There have been many cases where doctors retired from service even though they deserved promotion on account of extension of the age of superannuation of their senior doctors/officers.
It appears that the whole department is there to serve the interests of only a few individuals .
There is a strong possibility that senior officers of other departments may demand adoption of the same system (of extension of age of superannuation) as is currently applied in Health Department .
With many senior doctors who have already attained the age of superannuation still continuing their service, no new doctors have been appointed as there are no vacant posts, said a source .
It would be quite wrong if the Government was thinking that only specialist doctors should run the Health Department.
