Police modernization: Tear Gas to be acquired first

From the total amount of Rs 10,98,98,000 that has been sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for Manipur Police Modernization Scheme, an amount of Rs 1,12,96,684 has been marked for acquiring Tear Gas munitions in the first phase of implementing the scheme.
According to a reliable source, the amount sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under the Manipur Police Modernization Scheme has been lying unused up for quite a long time.
Nonetheless, for the first phase of implementing the scheme , an amount of Rs 1,12,96,684 has been allocated for acquiring Tear Gas munitions which includes 2000 numbers of Stun Shells and 2000 numbers of Tear Smoke Grenades, 726 numbers of CES, Sub Machine Guns, Carbines and 9mm Pistols.
The source further revealed that the process of purchasing the munitions has been taken up by the Home Department after the approval for the same arrived from the Manipur Finance Department.
The munitions would be purchased from the Ordinance factory at Dekanpur, Madhya Pradesh, the source disclosed.
Another amount of Rs 1,59,32,000 has been earmarked for the purchasing AK 47 Rifles, the source added.
