A son of the chief of Kholep village located within Saitu AC was allegedly assaulted by some supporters of the Congress candidate.
Kholep village chief Khaithang Haokip's wife Helhing Haokip said that two armed men came to their house at around 11.30 pm yesterday and assaulted her son Lenboi (24) .
The armed men first asked Khaithang Haokip to pull down a banner of BJP candidate Ngamthang Haokip, according to Helhing.
"As my husband refused to pull down the banner, they tore down the banner and forced my husband to hold it.
Then they took photograph of Khaithang using mobile phone", she said.
Meanwhile Lenboi intervened and asked the strangers as to why they were treating his father in such an aggressive manner.
But the two men drew out their guns and threatened to shoot Lenboi.
Then they hit Lenboi on the face with their gun butts, Helhing said.
She said that Congress candidate Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, his three brothers and escort personnel came to their house and thrashed her family members in the night of November 2.They also vandalised many household articles.
She then appealed to the Government to provide them security guards so as to prevent such incidents until the by-election is over.
Further, suspected supporters of the Congress candidate barged into the houses of neighbouring G Songlung village chief Ngamjang Haokip and G Hangjol village chief Nehlun, and vandalised household articles.
The assailants also took away Nehlun's mobile phone.
Meanwhile, BJP Manipur Pradesh executive member Paokam Haokip has strongly condemned the assault of the Kholep village chief's son.
He also sought security guards to ward off such attacks and ensure that the by-polls are held in free and fair manner.
On the other hand, several persons suspecting to be supporters of BJP and members of a club allegedly attacked and threatened them against voting, said a couple from Ponggringlong (Charoipandongba) village.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, the couple identified as Gonsinrei Malangmei (26) and Lureilu Malangmei (20) alleged that they were going to farm yesterday at around 9 am when they were taken inside the club and beaten by the persons.
Paothalon Panmei, who claimed to be a member of the MPCC Saitu Block, was also present and he alleged that BJP supporters are threatening Congress supporters.
Congress condemned such acts of violating the rights of citizens, he said and appealed the authorities concerned to take up appropriate actions and ensure free and fair election.
