Imphal, October 05, 2009:
The JACs for Rabina, Lamshang and for Sanjit, Khurai have drawn the attention of the intelligentsia of the state to the current agitation demanding resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi and punishment of the police commandos involved in the fake encounter killings of July 23. A joint press release issued by co-convenors of the two JACs today asked if it was not time for the educated, resource persons, intellects, etc.
to seriously discuss how a solution could be brought about to the demands of the Apunba Lup, student organizations and JACs.
The press release further asked if there wasn't any qualified and educated leader who loves truth in Manipur.
Should we remain consenting with Chief Minister Ibobi exercising supreme power, the two JACs asked.
The present issue is an example that shows weakness of the roles being played by the political parties in Manipur.
What the JACs and the people of Manipur want is to let the political parties know that when they come to power and when their government commits fake encounter killings, indulges in corruption, etc.
the people can punish them, the joint press release stated.
If the government keeps suppressing the issue, it will amount to declaring that democracy has been erased from Manipur, it said.
Fully supporting the closure of schools by some student organizations, the JACs stated that instead of getting killed by the police commandos after studying BA, MA, doctor, engineer, etc.
for many years, it is better to lose one academic year.
If students are going to be killed by some unruly police commandos, education is meaningless the press release said.
Right to live and right to life are more important than right to education.
Therefore, the parents and the teachers need to support the indefinite class boycott agitation, the JACs said.
