UPF to observe Natl Reconsolidation Day

United People's Front (UPF) will be observing National Reconsolidation Day 2017 to commemorate the 183rd Death Anniversary of Iningthou Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba on
January 9 .
Addressing a press meet in this regard at the offfice of UPF at Keishamthong Laishom Leirak Machin here today, president of the front S Ratankumar said that the observation will be marked by offering of floral tributes at the burial place of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Canchipur to be followed by a rally up to Chingamathak Hao Ground.
He earnestly appealed to the people to take part in the observance function.
He recalled that Maharaj Gambhir Singh managed to unite all the communities of the State during the Seven Years Devastation (1819-26) .
Stressing on the need for putting in concerted efforts to build a strong and prosperous society, Ratankumar appealed to all to refrain from calling bandh and blockade on the day.
UPF secretary general Nongthombam Rupachandra who was present at the press meet stated that Manipur witnessed turmoil and sufferings during the Seven Years Devastation.
He maintained that the National Reconsolidation Day has been observed with the objective of bringing people belonging to different communities together.
He added that the present generation should follow the footsteps and ideologies adopted by Maharaj Gambhir Singh to maintain an egalitarian society.
