Swachh Bharat: DBC Maram volunteers bag best intern award

The best intern award of the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2018 was given to Daikho Dominic and his team of 8 NSS volunteers from Don Bosco College, Maram, Senapati.
Daikho Dominic was honoured with the award by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi.
The other eight interns were honoured by Governor Najama Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The objective of this internship programme was to engage the youth across the country and develop their skill and orientation for sanitation related work, amplify mass awareness on cleanliness and cement the people's movement (Jan andolan) aspect of Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Swachh Bharat interns under the leadership of the nodal officer Jitendra Singh and the NSS Programme Officer Sr Sweta William Parmar carried out '100 hours of swachhta' in Ramlung village of Senapati.
These interns sacrificed their time and summer vacation to carry of this mission of cleanliness in which they carried out awareness campaigns on cleanliness, swachhta mela, wall paintings, slogans and many other information-education-communication activities, said college authorities.
They carried out transportation of household waste, installation of biodegradable dustbins, segregation of solid waste, building compost pits, drawing up plans for SWM with Panchayat.
They constructed two public toilets and renovated three toilets at Ramlung village.
The interns thanked the Principal of the college Fr Dr KO Sebastian, the management, staff, students and all the official who supported and encouraged them to fulfil their mission of Swachhta Abhiyan.
