Imphal, October 03 2012:
In another instance of inter-village rivalry, villagers of Nungsai Tairenpokpi have been accused of devastating and plundering the crops of neighbouring Joujangtek villagers under Nungba sub-division in Tamenglong district.
Joujangtek villagers told TSE that neighbouring Nungsai Tairenpokpi villagers have ransacked their crops including arum, gingers, turmeric, and maizes after dismantling the barb wire yesterday morning.
Right after discovering that their crops were destroyed and plundered, Joujangtek villagers showed the footprints they left to leaders of Kuki Inpi, Tamenglong and Zeliangrong Union (AMN) yesterday itself.
While a team led by ZU president Amu Kamei and KI, Tamenglong president Jangsat were inspecting the devastated fields, gun shots were heard from Nungsai Tairenpokpi side, Joujangtek residents alleged while strongly denouncing the act.
Exuding confidence that Kuki Inpi and ZU would bring amicable solution to the problems and misunderstanding between the two villages, village elders of Joujangtek have appealed the villagers to maintain calm over the matter.
Similar incident of devastation of crops was also reported in August this year.
