Imphal, September 01 2015:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) said it is appalled and perturbed by the 'unbecoming militarisation of State forces' in Churachandpur.
ATSUM in strongest term condemned the alleged State sponsored terrorism wherein several innocent civilians were killed and more than 20 injured in the course of the random indiscriminate firing.
ATSUM will fight any oppressive force to crush genuine democratic expressions.
According to a statement issued by ATSUM information secretary, Micah Kamei, the ugly incident that occurred in Churachandpur district on Aug 31 and Sept 1 in the wake of the passing of 'controversial Bills' in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, and the social anarchy arising for introduction of ILP in Manipur vis--vis the mobility and policing of the State forces doesn't match when taken into consideration the ferocity and irresponsibility of the States forces.
Any undemocratic means of violence perpetrated in the valley during the long course of the agitation in the valley had been either overlooked or unnoticed but the tribals in Churachandpur were furiously attacked by using live bullets as it is evident from the empty cases of bullets collected from the sites of the uprising.
"It is very unfortunate that all the tribal MLAs were brainwashed by the majority representatives on a sound pretext that the two Bills have nothing to do with the Hills Areas.
It is not that we are against introduction of any Bill in the Assembly that benefits the valley people but ours is simply to protect and safeguard the provisions enshrined under Article 371C of the Constitution of India.
Any Bill that infringes or overlaps our guaranteed rights is a doom.
To this end, the HAC has been made known by this Union ahead of time.
As such, ATSUM demands HAC to make their stance very clear or else they shall be held responsible for the entire calamity that befalls on the tribals" .
"Whereas, the Governor of Manipur, being the guardian of the Constitution of India has been earnestly prayed to secure the proper functioning of the HAC and also not to give his assent for approval of the Bills passed in the Assembly as it infringes the rights of the minorities.
The ATSUM once again gives a clarion call to all the tribal brethren to rise up and stand firm in unison for whatsoever circumstances in the offing," it added.
