Jiribam, February 01 2017:
The Social Welfare Forum Phaitol to Barak Tousem Tamenglong district has remarked that the weight of vehicles passing through the Barak/ Makru/Irang bridges which are on National highway 37 (Jiribam to Imphal road) has been restricted to only 24 MT but vehicles weighing up to 30 and 40 MT have been passing through the bridges thereby putting immense pressure on the bridges which often led to break down.
|
The forum has stated that the bridges have been damaged five times and the Boarder Roads Organisation (BRO) has been constantly repairing the damages.
The forum has stated that the BRO should not have to be responsible of any consequences if overloaded vehicles continue to pass through the bridges.
It has also urged the Central and the State Governments to withdraw the decision to hand over NH 37 from BRO to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) .
The forum said, ''If our voice is not heard, we will protest on NH 37 which can lead to unwanted circumstances in the future" .
