Teachers' are the focal point for improving education sector: Education Minister

Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam said that teachers are the focal point in making the education system better and it is therefore imperative that teachers are well trained to guide the young minds to their potential and bring an overall qualitative development in the education sector.
He added that teachers play a crucial role in the development of students by imparting knowledge, values and principles.
The Minister was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the TC College of Teachers' Education and Social Work at Kangpokpi.
He further expressed that it is a proud moment for the district that a college for teachers' training institute and social work is being established which will benefit teachers and student alike.
The college will help in providing better education to those who want to pursue teaching as a profession.
Dr Thokchom Radheshyam urged the students to make the best use of the training to acquire the professional knowledge, skill and understanding of the subject so that once they become teachers, they can professionally teach the students.
He said that the biggest problem in both the Government and private schools of the hill is the shortage of qualified teachers, expressing that the institution will help in addressing the issue of lack of trained teachers.
Social Work and Co-Operation Minister, Nemcha Kipgen, while highlighting the importance of teachers' education in bringing quality education, stated that training for teachers has therefore been made mandatory by the Government.
Only trained teachers can ensure proper development and guidance of the children, she said and opined that if teachers' education facilities are open in all the districts then a huge change will be brought in the education sector of the State.
Nemcha also expressed that the introduction of social work in the college will help in understanding the society better.
She further stressed the importance of education in bringing development in society.
Parents need to understand the child's psychology and interest as children consider parents as teachers, the Minister said and added that parents should not impose unnecessary pressure and burden to their children against their wishes.
During the inaugural ceremony, a monolith was also unveiled by the Dr Thokchom Radheshyam.
The function was also attended by Chairman, ADC, Sadar Hills, Haokholal Hangshing, officials of the District Administration and teachers and students of the college.
