Imphal, May 29 2012:
Moirangthem Sapana, who, despite the support of her parents, has been bringing up her siblings single-handedly and managed to clear matriculation this year, has gained the sympathy of Manipuri public with many chipping in towards realization of her dream for further studies.
15-year old Moirangthem Sapana is the eldest of three children born to Moirangthem Devan and Moirangthem ongbi Nganbi of Lamlongei.
Her father has been suffering from mental disorder for the last 10 years while the whereabouts of her mother is still unknown after being eloped with a stranger two years back.
In the absence of parental support, Sapana worked as daily wage earner to look after her brother and sister as well as her ailing father.
From the meager earnings, she has been sending her two younger siblings to school and at the same time enrolling herself in Public Girls High School, a government aided school at Lamdeng Khunnou.
In spite of all the odds, Sapana cleared HSLC Examination, 2012 in second division.
She secured 80 marks in Maths.
After the story of Sapana and her struggle was highlighted by a local TV network on May 28, many people from different walks of life have come forward to support her in various forms, cash as well as kind.
The first philanthropist who came forward with financial support was Director of MOBC.
He gave an amount of Rs 10,000 in addition to assuring scholarship to support her education.
Close behind the heel of Director of MOBC, Proprietor of Loktak Industries (Rs 10,000) and AK Ibomcha of Mongsangei (10,000) have also extended financial support to Sapana.
The student organisation, DESAM has also assured help in the education of not only Sapana but also of her two siblings.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Sapana expressed happiness and gratitude to all over their generosity.
"It is because of the generosity of the people of Manipur that I would be able to pursue further studies", Sapana said, while pleading to dedicate her life in the service of poor and needy people like herself.
