Awareness camp organised

Wildlife Division, Forest Department Government of Manipur under the aegis of Nature Learning Centre National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) organised an awareness camp for students was organized at State Orchidarium, Khonghampat, Imphal today.
The camp was organized with a view to impart awareness to the young generation towards the protection and conservation of the rich, endemic and endangered orchids of Manipur, said a statement of Forest Department.
Students from 5 Government schools - Jaihind High School, Mantripukhri Sardar Patel High School, Khurkhul; Khonghampat High School, Khonghampat; Keishamthong Model High School; and Srivan High School, Luwangshangbam along with their teachers participated in the camp, said Forest Department.
Sensitization on conservation of orchids in wild and their importance, session on the role of State Orchidarium in conserving and preserving the endangered orchids, identification of important orchids of Manipur, botanization of tree species, nature walk, nature quiz, screening of documentary movies on "Orchids of Manipur" and "Manipur Zoo", etc were some of the activities undertaken during the one-day camp for students.
The camp motivated the students to learn about nature and its surroundings and also to live in close affinity with nature.
The programme successfully ended with an interactive session with Waikhom Romabai, DFO (Wildlife), Th Thoiba Singh, RFO/ Orchid Range and Staff of Nature Learning Centre-NMHS, on the importance of living in harmony with nature, said Forest Department.
