Imphal, October 23 2013:
The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has reiterated that the fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border should be put to a stop unless international norms are strictly followed.
Speaking to reporters today at its office located at Kwakeithel, AMUCO president Dr Y Mani said the Govt has the liberty to give a name whatever it likes to the fencing but it should strictly abide by international norms in erecting the fencing.
The post merger territorial boundary of Manipur should remain intact, Dr Y Mani asserted.
He said that one major obligation of India to Manipur after its merger into the Indian Union in 1949 is protecting its territorial boundary particularly area contagious to Myanmar and it should never alter the boundary of the State.
Saying that the land of Manipur should not be ceded under any circumstances, Dr Mani said AMUCO is ready to face any eventuality in case of alteration of the State's territorial boundary.
He said dispute between the two countries is at BP 64 and 68 at Molcham in Chandel district; BP 94, 95, 96, 97, 75 and 79 at Moreh in Chandel district; and BP No 88 and 95 at Choro village in Ukhrul district.
The ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing is feared to cede half of Govajang village to Myanmar while the whole of Molphei village would go to Myanmar side.
Besides, chunk of land belonging to Moljol, Laiching, Yangnoi, Bongyang and Longtam would be lost to Myanmar.
On the claim made by the Govt that the fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border is meant for security fencing, Dr Y Mani questioned who would give protection to the citizens who are on the other sides of the fencing.
He said that AMUCO received reports that the Central security forces deployed nearby did not pay adequate attention over the missing Border Pillar and showed apathy to the distress of villagers.
The Govt cannot simply maintain ignorance about the border fencing that has been taken up since some months back as components for the fencing are found stockpiled near an Assam Rifles post at Govajang, he added.
Suspicious of a conspiracy involving Govt of India and some leaders of the State, Dr Mani said the matter could be brought to the notice of Border Dispute Committee of ASEAN countries.
He also drawn the attention of the Govt to jointly deploy the State and Central security forces in order to avoid such border dispute.
It may be mentioned that a team comprising 50 representatives of six organisations led by AMUCO had recently inspected the ongoing border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border.
