SUK kicks off World Earth Day awareness camp

A five World Earth Day awareness cum social service camp, was kick-started by Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) at Laishram Mani Memorial English Academy, Kongba Dhobi Lampak, today under the theme 'Protect our species' .
SUK president Nongthombam Gobin Meitei, Uchekon Nongpok GP Pradhan Nongmaithem Jadumani, Laishram Mani Memorial English Academy Principal Laishram Jotin and Standard College, Department of Chemistry Associate Professor Keisham Sobharani attended the event as the president, chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Nongmaithem Jadumani said that World Earth Day is being observed in Manipur just like it is observed all over the world and stressed on the importance of the people to protect and preserve nature and the environment.
The abuse and reckless actions against nature had led to rapid destruction of the environment.
As such, the people have a huge responsibility in ensuring the preservation of the environment, he added.
SUK president Nongthombam Gobin said that World Earth Day has been observed since 1970 and added that SUK decided to observe the day due to the deteriorating condition of the earth and the environment.
He further appealed to the people and the authorities concerned to keep the environment neat and clean, reduce pollution and ensure the preservation of nature which in turn will greatly benefit the human race.
