Imphal, April 22 2013:
With panic buying of fuel started in view of the Zeliangrong bodies-sponsored indefinite 'total bandh' along the national highways and the indefinite cease work strike of All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union in protest, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Moirangthem Okendro has reassured that there are fuel in the stock which would last for 15 days in the oil depot of the Government and there is nothing to panic about.
Talking to media persons in his office chamber at the State Secretariat here this evening, Minister Okendro observed that since there is enough fuel in the stock, there is no reason for the fuel outlets in the State to close down.

So, he would personally be going around checking all the fuel outlets in the State particularly those in Imphal city to see that all of them remain open in the interest of the public.
The Minister observed that closing down of fuel outlets at the smell of a bandh or blockade is not the right approach.
There are reports that some of the fuel outlets were closed today.
The inspection of fuel outlets will begin from tomorrow and if any of the fuel outlets are found closed, then stern actions would be taken up against them, he assured.
He also appealed to the general public to abstain from "panic buying" of fuel.
Nonetheless, panic buying of fuel has been witnessed as the indefinite 'total bandh' of national highways called by the Zeliangrong bodies has begun and All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union has launched an indefinite cease work strike from today.
Most oil pumps in Imphal areas were also seen closed.
The Zeliangrong bodies have called the total bandh along the National Highways leading to Manipur in pursuance of their demand for releasing school girl Alice Kamei from the custody of Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) .
On the other hand, All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union has decided to go ahead with indefinite ceasework strike from today in protest against the abduction of an oil tanker driver from Kohima by suspected armed cadres of a Naga rebel group.
