State to pay homage to June 18 martyrs today

Imphal, June 17 2012: People from all walks and communities would be paying homage to the 18 martyrs who laid down their lives in the mass June 18 Uprising against unconditional expansion of Cease Fire Agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the India Government.

Meanwhile, United Committee Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), the two main organisers of the commemoration and other Civil Society Organisations have already cleaned Kekrupat, the final resting place of the martyrs and its surrounding for the anniversary observance.

UCM observes the commemorative event as the Great June Uprising Day while AMUCO observes it as Unity Day every year.

After paying floral tributes at Kekrupat, UCM and AMUCO would be organising public meetings at Kekrupat and THAU Ground respectively.

To ensure smoth traffic flow, Manipur Police would be assisting the public who come to pay homage at the memorial complex of the martyrs.

Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) workers have also cleaned up the roadsides from North AOC crossing to Kekrupat.
