Indo Burma Sports Association (IBSA) and Poirei Eethiba Lup (PEEL), Yumnam Leikai have jointly distributed edible items including cabbages, banana stems, salt and ngari (fermented fish) to the residents of Yumnam Leikai as lockdown due to COVID-19 continues.
The two bodies conducted the distribution programme to check the scarcity of rations.
The distribution of potable water and edible items also continued at various places across the State.
Bharatiya Janata Party, Thangmeiband Mandal has also provided relief materials to the populace of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, today.
A press release issued by BJP Thangmeiband Mandal stated that the relief packages will be distributed to every household of the Constituency by the local clubs concerned which is affiliated to Thangmeiband United Club (TUC).
Rotary Club of Imphal, Rotary International District 3240 distributed hand sanitizers, face masks, biscuits, drinking water to the security personnel of Imphal East and Imphal West through the SPs concerned on April 14.Relief Committee Against COVID-19 Heirok Assembly Constituency, as a part of its relief work, to help people during the lockdown, distributed potable water to households in Langmeithet.
Social worker, N Diten also distributed potable water to households at Sekmai, Aripat, Nongpok Sekmai and Lourembam in Heirok AC.
Meanwhile, Sh Haridaya Sharma also distributed edibles at Heitup Pokpi Leikai, Heirok Part 1 with assistance from volunteers of Environment Kanba Lup.
2008-2009 Class X Batch of Padma Ratna English School, also doled out rice, potatoes, dal, edible oil, ngari, onions, detergent powder packets and soaps to BDS Children Home for Girls.
Another water distribution programme was also conducted at different Wards of Kwakta GP and Kwakta Municipality Council with the assistance of Moirang Kendra COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Edible items worth Rs 2,30,000 were also distributed to 2000 households under Tronglaobi Terakhongshangbi Gram Panchayat and families of journalists working in Bishnupur district with contributions made by Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and Members of 7th Ngangkhalawai Zilla Parishad and Tronglaobi Terakhongshangbi Gram Panchayat.
Edible items were also distributed to households at Tentha and Sangaiyumpham.
The distribution of the items at various localities of Tengtha Gram Panchayat was conducted under the aegis of the local body representatives through Ward Members with assistance from volunteers of local clubs.
On the sideline of distribution programme held at Tentha Multiplex, one Pradhan, Naorem Pradip maintained that the noble work was carried out to reduce the food scarcity faced by the local people due to the ongoing lockdown.
He also drew the attention of the State Government to ensure proper supply of diesel to the local farmers.
With the continuation of the lockdown and closure of oil pumps, farmers are facing untold inconvenience in carrying out their businesses as they are unable to properly irrigate their fields, he said and expressed concern that next year will also be very hard for everyone if the grievances of farmers are not addressed.
Meanwhile at Jiribam, phase-wise distribution of free rations by the local MLA, Md Ashab Uddin concluded today with the coverage of around 12,000 households including families of media personnel who are working relentlessly for the people amidst the lockdown.
The expenses of the ration were made from the MLA's local area development fund, reports our correspondent.
The president of All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU), Ngathem Biswajit Singh also expressed gratitude to local MLA of Jiribam AC for providing rations to media fraternity of Jiribam in this crucial situation.
